Some people threw rocks, some threw bottles at police who tried to disperse two large crowds within a mile of each other Monday night in Seaside Heights where the 'Nelk Boys', who have a large following on YouTube and social media, gathered to unveil their new line of jerseys.

The Nelk Boys were renting the house where the MTV Cast of 'Jersey Shore' once stayed in on Boardwalk Avenue, Seaside Heights Police Detective Steve Korman tells WOBM on Tuesday afternoon, when suddenly about 1,500 people were gathered in the Hancock Avenue area when officers noticed the crowd was gaining momentum.

One off-duty police security officer helped with security at the scene.

Meanwhile, there was another gathering of about 1,000 people or more for the 'Full Send New Jersey Car Club' down near Ocean Terrace and Lincoln Avenue around 8:30 pm.

Detective Korman said police estimate that between 2,000 and 3,000 people gathered Monday night.

There were eight arrests including for disorderly conduct and several individuals throwing bottles, some of them glass, as well as rocks at the police.

There was also a car driving and spinning around which ended up brushing up against three people before taking off with a crowd of people chasing it into neighboring Seaside Park.

The crowds, most of whom were reportedly civil, that gathered Monday night were dispersed by 12-midnight.

Seaside Heights Police called in backup from several towns to help disperse the crowds due to both locations in town being overwhelmed with disorderly person offenses.

The Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Ocean County Sheriffs Department, Bay Head Police, Mantoloking Police, Lavallette Police, Brick Police, Toms River Police, Seaside Park Police, Island Heights Police, Berkley Police and Seaside Heights Fire Department Station 44 Tri-Boro First Aid Squad all assisted.

SSH Police Chief Tom Boyd ordered had then the town to be closed off to non-resident traffic until this incident was brought under control.

Police have released the names and charges of the eight people arrested.
