Every parent’s worst nightmare has come true for the Vasquez family of Dumont, New Jersey with the sudden and shocking death of Aaron Vasquez.

This 14-year-old boy unexpectedly collapsed and died while playing basketball this past Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Aaron Vasquez had finished practicing with his basketball traveling team, when he decided to stay longer at the Grant Elementary School to play with his younger brother, according to parent witnesses.

A coach, who is also a hospital medic immediately began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on Aaron Vasquez. Members of the Dumont Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to the Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

A GoFundMe has been created: It includes this profound message from Aaron Vasquez’ family:

"With a heavy and broken heart we share the tragic and unexpected loss of our beloved Aaron Vasquez. Aaron was a 14 year old son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend with a bright future ahead of him. As a student and athlete he aspired to become a baseball player or baseball coach for the Major Leagues. He loved God, his family, his church, town and school.

"Aaron was a sweet, loving old soul who wore his heart on his sleeve and approached people with a unique sweetness and tenderness."

The fundraising campaign has raised about $25,000 in its first few hours.
