Wednesday was recognized as International Women's Day and social media was abuzz with organizations all over the state paying tribute to women from all walks of life.

From a former astronaut to regular New Jersey residents to large companies and unions, there was plenty to celebrate on a holiday that many people may not have been aware existed.

While there had been some thought that the Statue of Liberty was taking part in the event after most of the lights went dark, the National Parks Service said that was not the case.
