New Jersey’s AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center New Interim CEO

The AtlantiCare Board of Trustees has gone no further than their own ranks and selected one of their own to be the new Interim President and Chief Executive Officer.

Former Board Chairman and current board member Michael J. Charlton was selected and he will work closely with outgoing President and CEO Lori Herndon.

Herndon is slated to retire on June 30, 2023 after a distinguished 40-year career with AtlantiCare.

Charlton served as Board Chairman from 2017 until earlier in 2023. Charlton has served on the AtlantiCare Board since 2009.

Charlton’s professional background includes:

• Board member of the American Hospital Association.
• Continues to work on national AHA committees.
• Industry experience.
• Wide-ranging entrepreneurial background.
• He attended University of Delaware with a concentration in Finance.
• Obtained B.S. in Healthcare Administration.
• Organizational Leadership from the University of Louisville.
• Completed a Masters degree in Healthcare Leadership from Brown University.

AtlantiCare has developed a precise timeline that Charlton will work with Herndon as follows:

They will work side-by-side Beginning beginning May 1 until Herndon steps down from her day-to-day role on May 31, 2023.

Charlton will officially become interim President and CEO on June 1, 2023 and Herndon will remain available to consult with Charlton until June 30, 2023.

Charlton will also work closely with the AtlantiCare Board and the executive team while the formal search for a permanent CEO is conducted.
