A lockdown at schools in Newtown, Connecticut has been lifted.

The Superintendent of Schools offices tells WABC TV  all schools were under a "modified lockdown" for part of the day but would not elaborate. The Hartford Courant say the lockdown occured at the end of the day for about 10 minutes and students were dismissed about 10 minutes late from district schools.

WVIT TV reports there was no direct threat made to any school and described the lockdown as "precautionary."
