$3.99 Gas in Egg Harbor Township Has Drivers Stunned; Cheapest in NJ?
Egg Harbor Township, N.J. — It appears that the cheapest gas in New Jersey can be found right in Egg Harbor Township.
On my way home Wednesday night, I stopped to get gas on the Black Horse Pike in EHT and I paid $4.879 for premium (it was a wise move on my part to buy a car that only takes premium gas, but I digress). At that same station, regular unleaded was $4.38.
After dropping $53.30 for half of a tank, I continued my drive home, and I went up Tilton Road to the infamous circle in front of Atlantic City International Airport.
At that circle are two gas stations -- Wawa and Upgrading Image (which is a weird name for a gas station, but I digress yet again).
One EHT Station Is Far Cheaper Than Nearby Competitors
The Wawa was selling regular unleaded for $4.449, but, much to my surprise, Upgrading Image, which had been around that same price just that morning, had regular unleaded for $3.999.
I, quite literally, stopped and did a double-take to make sure I was seeing that correctly. And, indeed, I was.
And then I ran down a mental checklist as to why gas could be at that price... did the conflict in Iran end? No. Did Iran agree to a ceasefire? No. Did Trump make a shocking speech that made those investing in oil futures nervous? Nope.
As for why that gas station is a good 40-cents cheaper than any other spot anywhere in South Jersey, I really have no idea -- nor am I complaining about gas that is under four bucks a gallon.
Truth be told, I did not drive past that gas station this morning (Wednesday) to see if that $3.999 price was still there, but if it is, that would be the cheapest gas in the entire state.
It's also worth nothing that the next-closest Upgrading Image gas station at Tilton & Fire in EHT has gas for around $4.40 still.
Could This Be the Cheapest Gas in New Jersey?
According to gasbuddy.com, there are two gas stations selling $3.999 gas at the moment. One is West Berlin Gas on Route 73 in West Berlin, and the other is a Delta station in Saddle Brook, Bergen County.
The third would be Upgrading Image in EHT.
For the record, this isn't a free plug for that gas station. I don't have any connection to it, nor do I know anyone who works there. I really was quite shocked to see that the price of gas had dropped 40 cents in one day, especially after we have all seen gas go up 20 or 30 cents in 24 hours lately.
