NJ Congressman Introduces Bill That Would End This Income Tax
It would be life changing for approximately 65 million Americans if this onerous income tax is eliminated.
It was a major promise made by United States President Donald Trump during the 2024 campaign.
To help President Trump achieve his goal and keep his promise to the American people, who are at, or, nearing retirement age … United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew, NJ-R-2 has introduced the “No Tax on Social Security Act.”
Social Security income was never intended to be a taxable event. It was never taxed from President Franklin D. Roosevelt until President Ronald Reagan.
It was non-taxable from August 14, 1935 until April, 1983, when President Reagan signed amendments into law.
It was wrong then and it is wrong now.
It’s really double tax, since the American taxpayers have already been taxed once on this income.
It’s so bad now that you need to make less than $ 25,000 to avoid taxes on social security income.
Social Security should not be looked upon as income, since all recipients have made lifetime payments into this program.
About this, Van Drew said:
“As I have said before, those who rely on Social Security have already paid their dues through years of payroll taxes. They have worked hard and sacrificed, and now when it is time to enjoy the benefits they have earned, they are seeing their checks reduced by even more taxes. It is simply unfair. My bill would ensure that Social Security benefits are no longer taxed, helping seniors keep more of what they have earned. Rest assured, this legislation will not negatively impact the funding of Social Security and other vital trust funds. The Treasury will step in to cover any shortfalls, ensuring that the system remains stable,” said Van Drew.
For those on a fixed income, who rely on Social Security for their current standard of living, this would significantly improve their quality of life.
