Man With Ties to New Jersey Charged After 15 Months of Death Threats

Camden, N.J. — A man who spent months sending graphic death threats to people in New Jersey and Pennsylvania has been charged in federal court after authorities determined he was living in Albania.

37-year-old Jarvis Shabazz, who has ties to New Jersey, Georgia, Malaysia, Morocco, and Albania, was charged in an indictment with eight counts of interstate threats and two counts of cyberstalking.

15 Months of Threats

According to federal authorities, the campaign began October 10th, 2022, when Shabazz allegedly left a voicemail threatening to kill a victim and stating he would soon be "dismembering bodies and carving human f***ing flesh."

About a week later, he left another voicemail for the same victim: "There is not a white paramilitary organization on planet Earth that is going to prevent me from taking your life. You will die at my hands. White people cannot protect you. And your children will suffer the same fate."

For the next fifteen months, officials said Shabazz continued targeting the same victim and a second victim through voicemails and text messages. He frequently changed his phone number, allowing him to continue making threats even after victims blocked his number.

His messages were described as filled with violent imagery, religious references, racial epithets, and obscenity.

Charges and Penalties

Each of the ten counts carries a maximum of five years in federal prison, a total potential maximum of 50 years, plus fines of up to $250,000 per count.

The case was investigated by the FBI's Philadelphia Field Office and South Jersey Resident Agency Division with assistance from the West Deptford Police Department.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
