The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is looking to fill hundreds of seasonal jobs for New Jersey's state parks, forests, and historic sites.

Available positions include lifeguards, trail stewards, naturalists, historic educators, general maintenance, visitor service assistants, office works and State Park Police service assistants.

“The New Jersey State Park Service and State Park Police rely on seasonal employees to ensure our visitors have an enjoyable visit to our state parks, forests, recreation areas and historic sites during our most busy time of year,” said Division of Parks and Forestry Director Olivia Glenn. “Besides having the opportunity to work outside during the summer months, these positions provide valuable experience for all age groups who are looking to further their careers.”

"Peak" season jobs usually last from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend but there are a few positions that last from April through October.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and must be available to work on holidays and weekends because these sites are open 7 days a week during peak season.

Hourly rates for these types of positions start at $11.00 per hour but that number will vary depending on the position. For example, Lifeguards will be needed at 13 swimming areas across the state and their salaries begin at $12.00 an hour.

No experience is necessary to be a lifeguard but applicants must pass a running and swimming test before work can begin.
