North Carolina Homicide Suspect Arrested in Atlantic City
If a man wanted for homicide thought being 500 miles from the scene of the crime would make it hard for cops to find him, he obviously underestimated the Atlantic City Police Department.
And the FBI, too.
Cops say 38-year-old John Mitchell of Greensboro, NC, was arrested on Tuesday. He is wanted for homicide in the Tar Heel State.
Investigators received information that John Mitchell, who was wanted by law enforcement for an August homicide in Greensboro, NC, was hiding out in a residence on Massachusetts Avenue. Mitchell’s charges included shooting the victim multiple times and running her over with a car.
Detectives of the Special Investigations Section and agents from the FBI conducted surveillance on the residence. After a period of time, Mitchell emerged and was taken into custody without incident with assistance from the department’s SWAT Team.
WFMY-TV reports the shooting took place on August 11th. Detectives believe Mitchell shot 39-year-old Tameka Ruth Minor and then hit her with a vehicle before driving away. Arriving officers found Minor had been shot multiple times. Minor was in the hospital for five days before she passed away, leaving behind two children. WFMY's report says Mitchell has a lengthy criminal history.
Mitchell has been charged with fugitive from justice and remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
