
NYPD cop arrested for Voorhees, NJ, road rage shooting: Prosecutor
A New York City police officer has been charged with attempted murder in connection to an apparent road rage shooting in Camden County last month.
NYPD Ofc. Hieu Tran of Yonkers, NY, Arrested
27-year-old Hieu Tran of Yonkers, NY, who is employed as an officer with the NYPD, was arrested on Thursday and is facing first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose charges.
Just after 11:00 Friday night, May 17th, officers with the Voorhees Township Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash at Route 73 and Cooper Road.
At the scene, cops found one of the drivers had been shot. The victim, identified as a 30-year-old man from Voorhees Township, was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he remains in treatment.
Detectives say they utilized surveillance video, cell phone records, and ballistics evidence to identify Tran as the individual responsible for shooting the victim during an apparent road rage incident.
Ballistics evidence collected from the scene was ultimately linked to Tran’s department-issued firearm, per authorities.
Tran was taken into custody at the New York City Police Department. He is being held in New York pending extradition to New Jersey.
