It's a somber morning in Cumberland County as multiple families have been tragically impacted by an accident that claimed a child's life Wednesday night on Route 55.

Authorities had to shut-down travel on both sides of the highway last night after crash left one child dead and multiple injured.

No official word has been reported about when the accident happened, but WCAU-TV reports 9-1-1 was contacted a few minutes before midnight.

As many as five people were impacted by the crash. Out of those five, three were confirmed to be children. Those children had to be airlifted to area hospitals for treatment.

State police continue to investigate the accident.
