One person died in a house fire in North Cape May early Sunday morning.

Fire crews rushed to the home in the 200 block of Suzanne Avenue around 1 AM Sunday.

According to firefighters, crews from Town Bank, Erma, Villas Cape May, Rio Grande, Green Green, and other fire/EMS agencies operated on the scene for hours while the blaze was extinguished.

Heavy flames were shooting from the one-story residence upon arrival to the scene.

Some residents were evacuated to ensure their safety, due to the proximity of the fire.

6ABC is reporting that fire officials confirmed that one unidentified victim was found dead inside of the property.

No other injuries were reported.

The Lower Township Police Department along with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Cape May County Fire Marshall's Office conducted the on-scene fire investigation.
