United States President Donald Trump has many consequential decisions to make over the next four years.

One of them is to nominate a United States Attorney for New Jersey.

The top contenders may be two New Jersey State Senators … Michael Testa, R-NJ-2 and Doug Steinhardt, R-NJ-23.

Attorney Scott McBride, a former Assistant United States Attorney may also be under consideration … however, McBride is close with never-Trumper Chris Christie, which doesn’t help his candidacy.

McBride previously spent a decade as an Assistant United States Attorney.

United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew, R-NJ-2, served as President Trump’s state campaign chairman for New Jersey in the 2024 election.

Van Drew will wield influence regarding President Trump’s ultimate decision on a United States Attorney for New Jersey.

I have been a fan of Phil Sellinger, the current United States Attorney for New Jersey.

The customary process is for all United States Attorneys to resign upon the election of a new President.

Another challenge for Trump will be to find a candidate that United States Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim will agree to accept.

With no disrespect intended towards Steinhardt, who is a good man … I am enthusiastically endorsing Testa to become the next United States Attorney for New Jersey.

Testa is a talented lawyer … an intellectually curious, skillful and statesman-like state legislator, who possesses the temperament required to hold this powerful political appointment.

Testa was a New Jersey state chairman for President Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign.

Testa has been fiercely loyal to President Trump since (Trump’s) first candidacy for The Presidency in 2016.

The position of United States Attorney can serve as a launching pad for those who do the job well.

Just ask Rudy Giuliani or Chris Christie.

Giuliani became America’s Mayor and at one point was the leading Republican candidate for President of The United States.

Christie went from being a failed one-term county Freeholder, who was unpopular and thrown out of office … to become the two-term Governor of New Jersey, and, a two-time candidate for President of The United States.

This never could have happened had not President George W. Bush selected Christie to be The United States Attorney for New Jersey.

Testa has also demonstrated the ability to work well with Democrats on an effective and collegial level.

This would be a life-changing moment for Testa, who is qualified and up for the challenge.

I unconditionally and enthusiastically endorse Senator Michael Testa to become the next United States Attorney for New Jersey.
