Philadelphia & Atlantic City’s Own Jerry Blavat Receives Big Honor
A very deserving Jerry Blavat has received a high honor in The City of Brotherly Love,” Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
A section of famed Broad Street has been named in honor and memory of the late legendary Philadelphia and Atlantic City area disc jockey Jerry Blavat.
Last Wednesday, June 28, 2023, the section of Broad Street, located between South and Lombard Avevues officially became "Jerry Blavat Way."
Blavat was famously known as The "Geator with the Heater” and the "Big Boss with the Hot Sauce.
Blavat held popular record hops for generations of followers and fans.
Blavat also helped to launch the careers of musical groups such as The Four Seasons and Isley Brothers.
Blavat passed away on January 20, 2023 at the age of 82.
Blavat’s storied career spanned more than 65 years.
Earlier this week, the City of Margate, New Jersey installed an engraved Jerry Blavat marker imbedded into concrete out front of Blavat’s iconic nightclub, “Memories in Margate.”
Blavat made each customer at his nightclub and every patron at his record hops feel special … with his famous “Harry My Man.”
If Jerry didn’t know your name, he would say “my man pots and pans.”
Demonstrating undying loyalty is David Joel Stephens who is unselfishly (successfully) working to keep the Jerry Blavat flame alive.
In the immediate run-up to one final large Geator gathering at Memories in Margate, Stephens wrote:
In honor and memory of the late, great Jerry Blavat … please join with me in a hearty … “Clap your hands … Clap your hands … Clap your hands” for a true legend of the television, radio broadcasting and live performance industries … the one and only Jerry Blavat.
