The Phillies have been battling some injuries of late.

  • Bryce Harper continues to rehab from "Tommy John" surgery.
  • Andrew Painter suffered a UCL sprain.
  • Ranger Suárez is behind after some forearm tightness and probably is not ready for Opening Day.

And now it does not look good for their slugging first baseman.

Rhys Hoskins suffered a knee injury Thursday afternoon that led to him being carted off of the field:

The images invoked memories of Andrew McCutchen a couple of seasons ago.

The Phillies have depth at first base in Darick Hall, who hits left-handed, and Alec Bohm, who has gotten work at the position this Spring.

If Hoskins misses time (which seems likely by looking at the injury), a combination of Hall and Bohm could cover first base, while providing an opportunity for the likes of Edmundo Sosa and perhaps Spring surprise Jake Cave.

Play ball NJ: These MLB pros are from New Jersey

A fair amount of New Jersey born baseball players have made it to the majors. These pros, active to start the 2023 season, all have NJ roots.

Weird things NJ taxes - and some they don't

In general, New Jersey assesses a 6.625% Sales Tax on sales of most tangible personal property, specified digital products, and certain services unless specifically exempt under New Jersey law.
However, the way the sales tax is applied in New Jersey sometimes just doesn't make sense.
New Jersey puts out an itemized list for retailers that spells out what is, and what is not, taxed.
Perhaps because this is New Jersey, there are some bizarre and seemingly contradictory listings.
