Pleasantville Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Fatal Stabbing
A Pleasantville woman has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison for fatally stabbing an Atlantic City woman in 2018.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner says 30-year-old Rollie Ellis was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in state prison for aggravated manslaughter subject to the No Early Release Act. The sentence runs concurrent to a seven-year state prison sentence, also subject to NERA, for an additional aggravated assault charge.
Ellis pleaded guilty last month to first degree aggravated manslaughter for the death of 34-year-old Jennifer Rodriguez and second degree aggravated assault for stabbing 34-year-old Raphy Rodriguez.
Authorities say on the morning of April 11, 2018, both Raphy and Jennifer Rodriguez were in their apartment at 3 South Iowa Avenue in Atlantic City; Ellis was also in the apartment when an altercation took place. Ellis stabbed both Raphy Rodriguez and Jennifer Rodriguez. Jennifer Rodriguez was able to escape the apartment and run to the Atlantic City Police Department; she was found in the lobby of the Public Safety Building unresponsive and bleeding from a stab wound to the back of the head/neck. Jennifer Rodriguez was transported to AtlantiCare-City where she was later pronounced dead. Raphy Rodriguez was also able to escape the apartment and flag down a Atlantic City police officer on Iowa Avenue. He was transported to the hospital with several serious stab wounds and he survived.
Ellis was arrested charged with first degree Murder, first degree attempted murder, and third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
