The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department is collaborating with The John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers.
Sheriff Joseph 'TOKYO' O'Donoghue of Atlantic County announces the debut of the county's first-ever Sheriff's HERO Truck, set to patrol Atlantic County's roads following its St. Patrick's Parade appearance. As part of the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers, a nonprofit public safety initiative, the truck promotes the importance of designated drivers in preventing drunk-driving accidents. The campaign, founded by Bill Elliott and Muriel in 2000, honors their son Ensign John R. Elliott, a Human Education Resource Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy who was killed by a drunk driver. ‘Be a HERO. Be a Designated Driver' is the campaign's central message. This new initiative is among several programs rolled out by the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office without any additional cost to local taxpayers. Further details on the dedication ceremony for the HERO Truck will be shared in due course, said O’Donoghue.
