UPDATE 5:30 PM: A second child has passed away at Newark University Hospital, Linden police Capt. Christopher Guenther told New Jersey 101.5.


LINDEN - Two adults, including the shooter, and two children are dead as a result of a shooting Sunday morning, according to police.

Linden police said cops got a call for a shooting on Chatham Place, a residential area, around 9:30 a.m.

Two adults and a juvenile were found dead at the scene.

A fourth victim, also a juvenile, was taken to Newark University Hospital in critical condition. However, the child passed away later Sunday, Linden police Capt. Christopher Guenther told New Jersey 101.5.

"The shooter is believed to be among the deceased, and there is no further threat to the public," police said in a statement.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

"This morning Linden suffered another tragedy," Mayor Derek Armstead said in a statement on social media. "There simply are no words to describe the trauma, heartbreak and sorrow that we are all experiencing,"

Gov. Murphy said on Sunday afternoon that his office is aware of the "horrific shooting in Linden."

"This is an ongoing investigation with many questions to be answered," Murphy said. "Linden is a strong community and we will support them however possible as they mourn and recover."
