Since Collin Kaepernick, formally of the San Fransisco 49ers, knelt during the national anthem during the 2016 football season controversy surrounding his actions erupted.

From that point on more and more players followed Kaepernick's lead and either knelt or stood with a fist raised during the national anthem.

It has even made its way to country music with singer Megan Linsey, formally of Steel Magnolia, kneeling at the end of the National Anthem as she sang it before the Tennessee Titans vs Seattle Seahawks game Sunday night.
