Yesterday was just the latest example where Somers Point, New Jersey demonstrated that they have their priorities in order stem it comes to honoring those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service of our country.

Let’s Demystify What Memorial Day Is?

There is confusion in American society about what Memorial Day really is.

Memorial Day is not Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a nationally recognized federal holiday that is held in the 4th Monday in May every year.

Memorial Day officially became a federal holiday in 1971.

Memorial Day specifically recognizes those who lost their lives in military service to our country … dying in the line of duty for the ultimate sacrifice.

The visibility of the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department under O’Donoghue is commendable.

Atlantic County Sheriff Joseph O'Donoghue, his command staff and Honor Guard marched in the annual Somers Point Memorial Day Parade with Congressman VanDrew. Today we honored our service members lost in the line of duty. It was an amazing day. The service after the parade was very heartwarming. Your Day At The Beach

I saw a great social media post yesterday on Memorial Day. It read:

Your Day at The Beach is brought to by Their Day at The Beach.

It’s the perfect statement. It displayed two photos with the above statement. The first was a day at beach, with umbrellas, picnic baskets and people enjoying their freedom on the beach.

The second photo was our American military members storming the beach during World War II.

What a fitting contrast these two examples are.
