A North Jersey man is headed to prison for several years for possessing child porn — and it's not the first time.

Earlier this week, 68-year-old John Schulenburg of Basking Ridge was sentenced to 120 months, or 10 years, behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.

Federal authorities say in the summer of 2019, an undercover law enforcement officer conducted an online session using a publicly available peer-to-peer program that allowed internet users to trade digital files.

During that session, a user shared multiple child porn files from an internet address traced to Schulenburg's home.

On November 6th of that year, officials seized Schulenburg's computer and they found hundreds of images and videos of child sexual abuse, including images of prepubescent children.

Repeat Offender

Schulenburg was previously convicted of endangering the welfare of a child/possession of child pornography in Somerset County in 2013.

As a repeat offender, the latest charge of possession of child pornography carried a minimum of 10 years in prison.

In addition to the jail time, Schulenburg was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and ordered to pay $58,000 in restitution.

U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger thanked special agents with the Newark Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office for their work in this case.
