A New Jersey school superintendent is earning more than $320,000 a year, sparking questions from parents and residents about how education dollars are being spent. With rising concerns over school budgets, the high salary is drawing fresh attention.

The legislation from Assemblyman Sean Kean, R-Monmouth was the direct result of a buzzer beater by the Manasquan boys basketball team in a semi-final game against Camden being called back giving the Panthers the win.

It's "game on" for Saturday's Division 2 boys basketball game between Camden and Newark Arts High School as the acting education commissioner essentially upheld the NJSIAA's ruling.

At issue, is a new rule enacted in August by the New Jersey Board of Education. One of the new rules states that if a school teaches sex education, and divides the class by boys and girls, they must divide the class by gender "identity."

According to the U.S. Department of Education, New Jersey has teacher shortages at all grade levels across multiple subjects, including math and science.

The Clifton Public School district is considering the elimination of all non-federal holidays that come with a day off.

A group of New Jersey Senate Republicans held an independent hearing about what they say are disturbing state curriculum mandates.

"The teacher shortage is real in New Jersey," said Richard Bozza, executive director of the New Jersey Association of School Administrators.

State Sen. Ed Durr takes issue with the New Jersey Education Association's Center for Honesty in Education. The union says some people feel threatened by the truth.
