Job loss fears are on the rise, with many feeling the weight of layoff anxiety. It’s a tough time for working folks everywhere.

Preliminary numbers show that after no change in June, the unemployment rate in New Jersey ticked down two-tenths of a percentage point to 3.7% in July, according to information released by the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development on Thursday.

It was the 18th consecutive month of jobs gains in New Jersey, though the third smallest monthly increase in that year and a half.

Employers in New Jersey added 17,800 jobs in March, helping push the state’s unemployment rate down by 0.4 percentage points to 4.2%.

The look back over the past 15 years finds New Jersey’s finances were the most out-of-balance in the nation in that period, according to the state’s audited Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports.
