In the next few weeks, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will begin issuing REAL ID driver’s licenses on a trial basis at one MVC agency office that hasn’t been identified yet.
Terminals at MVC offices are nearly 40 years old and the agency’s servers are near the end of their life. A modernization contract awarded in 2008 wound up being cancelled.
Computer systems for all 38 state agencies were reportedly experiencing issues on Tuesday, resulting in customers at the Motor Vehicle Commission and other offices unable to conduct their business.
