The students who have been identified as having been involved in the prank have been sent a "graduation participation contract" with terms they must comply with in order to participate in Thursday's commencement.

South River Police Chief Mark E. Tinitigan told New Jersey 101.5 in a statement the incident at South River High School is being treated as an act of criminal trespassing and vandalism.

According to a message from South River High School Principal Jamie Kinard to staff obtained by New Jersey 101.5, extreme vandalism and mischief caused classes to be canceled on Thursday.

South River High School is closed by unspecified police activity while staff and students were told to stay away from the Gregory School in Trenton.

In two cases, homes were broken into and car keys sought to steal, police said.
