They fell for it! Decoy purse on Atlantic City Boardwalk sends 2 to jail
They fell for it -- two men were arrested for allegedly stealing a decoy purse left unattended on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.
On June 24th, officers say they set up a decoy operation where an undercover female officer left a purse containing valuables unattended on a bench on the Boardwalk while she became preoccupied.
While the purse was sitting there, plainclothes officers were nearby keeping an eye on it.
Police say during the operation, 43-year-old Eddie Taylor of Brooklyn and 62-year-old Jorge Villafane, Sr., of Newfield attempted to steal the purse at separate times.
Both men were arrested and each was found to have active warrants for their arrest.
Each man was charged with theft and remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
