Three Teens Facing Charges After Allegedly Robbing Lyft Driver, Carjacking
Three teens from Atlantic City are facing charges after cops say they robbed a Lyft driver in the city, sprayed him with mace, and then stole his car earlier this week.
Atlantic City Police say the scene unfolded around 6:30 Monday evening when they responded to the 200 block of Melrose Avenue for a report of a man that was assaulted.
Officers say a 22-year-old man from Burlington City was a Lyft driver and picked-up four men and a woman. During the ride, according to police, the victim was assaulted, sprayed with mace, and thrown from the car. The suspects then fled in the vehicle.
The victim was transported to ARMC-City for treatment of his injuries.
Early the next morning, an officer in Little Egg Harbor Township spotted the vehicle and the occupants were taken into custody.
18-year-old Shawn McCann and 19-year-old Talibah McCoy, both of Atlantic City, were both charged with robbery, carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime, and theft.
An unnamed 16-year-old from Atlantic City was charged with Robbery, carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, and theft.
McCann and McCoy were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. The 16-year-old was taken to Harborfields Detention Facility.
