The fine men and women in blue of the Atlantic City Police Department put their lives on the line every day to protect our community, and I am grateful for their courage. We truly have the best police department in the world. My thoughts and prayers are with the two Atlantic City police officers who were wounded this afternoon, as well as their families, and the entire Atlantic City Police Department during this difficult time. We are hopeful for their full and speedy recovery. Any additional information regarding this incident will be released by the Atlantic City Police Department or the New Jersey Office of Attorney General, said Mayor Small.

NOTE: I was on the phone with Mayor Small within minutes of the shootings. I can confirm that Small raced to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center to support both Atlantic City Police Officers.

This is a developing story.

We will be updating this story regularly throughout the night as more details become available.

NOTE: We have done a number of recent definitive on-air interviews, whereby we have been discussing how shootings have become almost nonexistent in Atlantic City over the past year.

This certainly serves notice to the fact that the serving of warrants by police officers… And, the job of being a sworn police officer is so incredibly dangerous.
