USA Triathlon in Atlantic City to cause traffic this weekend
Events like this weekend's USA Triathlon are important to our tourist region.
Tourists bring a much-needed infusion of cash when they attend events like the triathlon in Atlantic City.
The added traffic in our area is the downside to an event like this. And because this is a triathlon, much of the area around Atlantic City will be impacted as well.
Before we share the road closures, let's answer the bigger question.
What the heck is a triathlon anyway?
What is a Triathlon
It is one of the most grueling athletic challenges there is.
It involves three different disciplines that include,
- Swimming
- Biking
- Running
All three legs of the triathlon are long-distance challenges. There is no set standard, and each event organizer decides the distances of their events.
Excelling in one of these events would be impressive enough, but those who complete all three?
The USA Triathlon in Atlantic City event will see participants start to arrive on Thursday, and the event itself will take place on Saturday.
What You Need to Know About Saturday Traffic
On Saturday, the events will kick off at 6:30 am at Bader Field and finish in front of Kennedy Plaza on the boardwalk.
If you plan to go into the city on Saturday, officials say you should plan on using the AC Expressway or Rt. 30.
You can expect delays throughout the day on Rt. 40/322/Albany Ave in both directions.
Several exits on the expressway will be closed, including exit 2, exit 4, and exit 5 from 4:40 am until about 12:30 pm.
Expect Traffic Issues on Sunday as Well
On Sunday, authorities warn of several traffic issues as well.
They warn you to expect significant delays on the ACE exits 2, 4, and 5. They will be closed until 11:30 am.
Rt. 40, 322, and Albany Ave will see delays from 6 am until 12:30 pm.
