Bonus Ventnor City Photo — Featuring The Ventnor Avenue School Graduating Class of 1974
Wow. This is a classic photo, featuring many long-time Ventnor residents.
It was a magical time in the history of Ventnor City, as Ventnor became a real leader in public education delivery systems under Dennis Kelly and a host of young, dynamic teachers … such as Tom Hand, Bill Gussie, Bob Wallace, Richie Goldstein, Roy Todd, Roy Law and so many more greats.
More History … The 1992 Ventnor City Commission Campaign
Ventnor City did get new leadership in 1992, but, not with me, as I barely lost. Two new City Commissioners, Tim Kreischer and Bea Kershenblatt won along with top vote-getter Ted Bergman.
Bergman became Mayor with Kreischer’s vote for the next 4 years. Bergman retired undefeated in 1996. Bergman finished in a tie with Kay McLernon for the 3rd Commissioner seat in 1996.
Bergman opted not to run in the run-off election and retired undefeated with more than 16 years served on the City Commission.
Kreischer and Sandy Vespertino supported former Ventnor City Commissioner Paul Maccagnano … who defeated McLetnon and won a 4-year term, joining Kreischer and Vespertino.
Kreischer then served as Mayor for the following 12 years … which gave Kreischer 16 years on the Ventnor City Commission.
Still More History … Don Hurley’s First Badge With The Ventnor City Police Department— Circa 1979
Don Hurley began his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher in the Longport Police Department (1978) at age 18.
Don became a sworn Ventnor City Police Officer in 1979, where he was President of the Ventnor City PBA Local 197.
Don went on to become an Atlantic City Police Officer and served as President of the Atlantic City PBA Local 24.
