Daylight Saving Time has been the source of a great public debate in New Jersey and nationally for more than 107 years, since 1918.

History Of Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time was first introduced in the United States (1918) during World War I.

It became the standard nationally in 1966 with the passage of the Uniform Time Act.

When Is Daylight Saving Time In 2026?

Sunday, March 8, 2026 through Sunday, November 1, 2026.

In New Jersey, as well as the entire East Coast, Daylight Saving Time is in effect for eight months and Eastern Standard Time for four months.

A Group Of New Jersey State Legislators

Have introduced a bill that would end Daylight Saving Time in New Jersey.

I don’t like it when it’s dark at 4:00 p.m., however, I like Daylight Saving Time.

Also, it would confusing if only New Jersey did this … making us an hours time difference than the rest of the East Coast.

However, the Florida Pan Handle section is a different time than the rest of Florida and they handle it.

The New Jersey Proposal

The legislators have pointed out that under current federal law, the states are not allowed to use daylight saving time on a year-round basis.

New Jersey legislators are trying to convince the federal government to implement Eastern Daylight Time on a permanent basis.

Studies Indicate

That the “Yo Yo” effect of changing the time has led to increases in:

Health issues, heart attacks and more.
increase in traffic crashes.
increased crime.
The proposed change would allow for more overall daylight.

New Jersey Senator Troy Singleton, D-Burlington

Recently shared the following in a news release:

Changing the clock twice a year isn't just inconvenient; it disrupts our sleep, increases accidents and sends more people to emergency rooms. We've outgrown this practice. If we know it harms public health and safety, then we have a responsibility to end it and keep daylight saving time year-round, said Singleton.
