7-Year-Old Boy in South Jersey Calls 911 to Get Mom Help
EVESHAM — Another level-headed New Jersey child helped get help for a parent in trouble.
Police said 7-year-old Rocco Regalbuto dialed 9-1-1 when his mother began to have trouble breathing on Friday morning. He stayed on the line with dispatchers who were able to get to their home. Mom was taken to a hospital and and is in stable condition.
"We thought this was a great opportunity to put something on our social media that would spark a conversation between parents and their children the importance of knowing what to do if they have to call 911," Lt. Joseph Friel said. "Going over with them time and time again in case there's an emergency, a fire in the house and what their responsibility is and what they can do to get help."
Frield said that rather than preaching the lesson to a child in a classroom, "if you can tie it into a story like this you can show a picture, look at this kid with the police officers and this what he did. A story like this hits home so much more with the children, Friel said.
A 3-year-old girl from Brick called 911 from in early February and told dispatchers her mother wasn't breathing. The call wound up with a Monmouth County dispatcher who got the girl to give her actual address after police initially went to an incorrect location.
