A man from Brigantine has been charged with attempted murder in connection to an alleged case of domestic violence.

31-year-old Kevin Turkvan has been arrested and is facing the following charges:

  • First-degree attempted murder
  • Second-degree aggravated assault
  • Third-degree domestic violence/aggravated assault
  • Third-degree aggravated assault with a weapon
  • Third-degree terroristic threats
  • Third-degree criminal restraint
  • Fourth-degree tampering with evidence
  • Third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose

The Brigantine Police Department said they were contacted by the victim in this case on Tuesday, April 9th, while being treated at a local medical facility.

An investigating officer "confirmed serious injuries to the victim’s head, which later caused the victim to be transferred to a trauma center."

The victim also had other documented injuries consistent with having been subjected to a violent assault.

An investigation revealed that the assault occurred on the evening of April 5th at a home in Brigantine.

It was learned that the victim was struck in the head with blunt household objects. It was also reported that the perpetrator of the assault did not seek treatment for the victim and did not allow the victim to leave the location.

Police say following the alleged assault, Turkvan cleaned up the scene and threw away evidence.

Officials obtained a search warrant for where the assault took place and evidence was seized from inside the home and the trash outside.

Turkvan is currently being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
