All of South Jersey and part of Central Jersey are now expected to see heavy snow and terrible travel conditions through Saturday evening.

Happy Snow Day, New Jersey. Preliminary snow totals are coming in from South Jersey (and Delaware too) and they are on the high side. We've always known that this storm would be most significant along New Jersey's southern coast. But it looks like the entire southern half of New Jersey will in fact see healthy snow totals by the end of the day.

We're truly in the thick of the snowstorm now, with bands of moderate to heavy snowfall through the afternoon. Models show the snow tapering off from west to east from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. That's later than initially forecast, lending credence toward the higher snow totals.

Live warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service

The Winter Storm Warning has been expanded to include:
--Middlesex, NW Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Salem until 6pm
--Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, SE Burlington, Cape May, and Cumberland until 8pm

The Winter Weather Advisory has also expanded to now include:
--Mercer, Hunterdon, Somerset, and Morris until 6pm
--Eastern Passaic, Western Bergen, and Western Essex until 9pm
--Hudson, Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex, and Union until 10pm

That means 19 of New Jersey's 21 counties are now totally or partially under the warning or advisory.

In the latest round of warning updates, NWS has posted snow totals in South Jersey in the 10 to 15 inch range. Wow. That sounds pretty dramatic and high according to what I've seen... But this storm has proven to be rather unpredictable so far, so I'd expect the worst through the rest of the Saturday daytime hours.

Instead of posting a new snow forecast map this late in the game, I'll just caution that roads are already very bad in the warning and advisory areas, and will only get worse through this afternoon.

Please use extreme judgment when deciding whether the trip across town or across the state is really necessary. If you can spend this snow day at home, watching the flakes fly by the window, that's the best way to guarantee your safety.
