A traffic stop at 3 AM in Brigantine sent two men from Pennsylvania and a woman from Mays Landing to jail.

During the early morning hours of Friday, September 13th, the Brigantine Police Department says one of their officers stopped a vehicle that allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and didn't keep right on a two-lane highway.

According to police, the driver, 49-year-old Christopher M. Leupold of Bensalem, PA, identified himself using someone else's identity, and that was just the beginning of his problems.

Officer Springer noticed that the rear seat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt, so he requested his identification as well. The rear seat passenger, Larry W. Voss III (54) of Croydon, PA was found to have active warrants for his arrest and was taken into custody. He was later found to have suspected crystal methamphetamine concealed on his person.

During the course of the stop, a K9 from Galloway Township was brought to the scene, and "K9 Narco indicated the presence of narcotic odor in the vehicle."

Inside the vehicle, police say they found suspected crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, multiple credit/debit cards believed to be stolen, a fraudulent check, and Leopold's ID, which was used to identify him correctly and it was learned that he was a fugitive from Pennsylvania.

The following people were arrested and charged in this case:

Christopher M. Leopold

  • Fugitive from justice
  • Hindering apprehension
  • Identity theft
  • Possession of a controlled dangerous substance
  • Credit card theft
  • Possession of a forged writing/check

54-year-old Larry W. Voss III of Croydon, PA

  • Possession of a CDS
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

39-year-old Jenny L. Mangano of Mays Landing

  • Possession of a CDS
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

All three people were being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending detention hearings.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
