After Round of Cuts, Konecny and Provorov Still Remain

It’s showtime for Travis Konecny and he knows it.

The 2015 first-round pick is making a strong push for the Flyers’ roster as management continues to whittle it down.

Thursday came with another round of cuts, 10 of them including six forwards, and Konecny wasn’t among them.

“It weighs on you,” he said after notching a goal and an assist against the Devils in a shutout win Wednesday. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about it. It’s definitely the time I need to step up and make sure I’m playing good hockey and just keep earning another day. That’s the way I look at it every day when I wake up is just working hard and moving forward from there.”

That’s exactly what general manager Ron Hextall wants to hear, but having a good attitude isn’t the only thing he’ll need to win a job with the big club. Hextall believes that patience is a virtue even though Konecny was the flashiest Flyer on the ice Wednesday night.

“They’re young kids and honestly these really aren’t NHL games right now,” Hextall said before Wednesday’s exhibition game, the Flyers’ fourth of the week, “so we’ll see here as we go on with other guys.”

Konecny is still around after the Flyers cut forwards Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Radel Fazleev, Tyrell Goulbourne, Corban Knight, Danick Martel and Mark Zengerle, defensemen Robert Hagg and Reece Willcox and goalies Alex Lyon and Anthony Stolarz, sending all of them to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
