It was only a few days after the 4th of July holiday that news broke of an accident in Cumberland County that involved a number of children ejected from a vehicle on Route 55 in Vineland.

On the night of July 7th, a minivan traveling on Route 55 was involved in a double-whammy of an accident near mile marker 34. First, the car veered off the roadway, then it overturned and somehow managed to slip back onto the highway where it was hit by another vehicle.

NJ.com reports that five children were thrown from the minivan.

A five-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene that day. Unfortunately, another one of the children has succumbed to his injuries sustained from that night -- six-year-old Carlos Diaz passed away on July 11th.

Regarding the other children involved in the accident, all were hospitalized. Now, only one, an eight-year-old, still remains. The eight-year-old is currently listed in stable condition. The other two children have been released. No word on where the children will be headed now that they're out of the hospital.

No charges have been filed against the 35-year-old mother from Camden who was driving the minivan.
