2 Atlantic County Men Sentenced in Deadly 2021 Shooting
Atlantic City, N.J. — Two Atlantic County men will be spending decades behind bars in connection with a 2021 murder.
On Wednesday, 33-year-old Denzel Garrison of Atlantic City was sentenced to 58 years in prison, and 35-year-old Laquine Demby of Pleasantville received a 42-year sentence.
Both sentences are subject to the No Early Release Act, which means they must serve at least 85 percent of their terms before being eligible for parole.
The pair was found guilty by a jury in a two-week-long trial.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said the evidence presented at trial showed that Garrison was involved in a minor car accident with 28-year-old Jahmil Greenidge of Atlantic City two months before the murder. A dispute over who would pay for the vehicle insurance deductibles led to a feud between the two.
Garrison enlisted the help of his friend, Demby, to commit the murder.
On May 19th, 2021, Demby drove Garrison to Greenidge's house, where they parked and waited almost an hour for him to return home from work. Garrison approached Greenidge from behind and shot him six times in the foyer of an apartment building as he was walking in. They then fled the scene.
Garrison was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and creating a grave risk of danger to others during the commission of the murder. The jury found him guilty on all counts except for creating a grave risk of danger.
Demby was charged with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder.
This case was investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit with the assistance of the Atlantic City Police Department.
