Atlantic City, New Jersey Police Chief Jim Sarkos is as professional and classy as you will find anywhere. No surprise with his first public comments about two police officers being shot yesterday.

On behalf of the entire Atlantic City Police Department, I want to extend our deepest thanks to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and its trauma team, nurses, doctors, and support staff. Their rapid, highly skilled response under immense pressure was nothing short of lifesaving, and we are forever grateful for their professionalism and compassion, said Sarkos.

Sarkos Thanks The Community

Our elected leaders, city officials, faith leaders, residents, and community partners have been praying for our officers and reaching out constantly, said Sarkos.

The broader law enforcement and public safety family has wrapped its arms around us," said Chief Sarkos. "We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with agencies that are so quick to help when tragedy strikes. (Sarkos praised the men and women of the Atlantic City Police Department and the city's public safety professionals)  There is no police department more tight-knit or supportive of one another than the Atlantic City Police Department, In moments like this, our officers, dispatchers, EMS, firefighters, and civilian staff rally together, proving once again that we are more than co-workers, we are family, said Sarkos.

Sarkos In Closing, For Now

“Finally, the department extends its deepest gratitude to the families of the injured officers. Our officers' families are the quiet strength behind the badge. They carry a heavy burden when incidents like this occur. Their courage and unwavering support make it possible for our officers to serve this community,” said Sarkos.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Sarkos has advised that … “The incident remains under investigation by the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, and no further details will be released at this time,” said Sarkos.

The Atlantic City Police Department is grateful to report that both officers injured in yesterday's incident while serving a search warrant are expected to recov-er, including the officer who initially suffered life-threat-ening injuries and remains in serious but stable condition at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Another officer was treated, released and recovering at home, said Spokesman Matt Duffy.
