An Atlantic City man is facing charges after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and then dragged her in his vehicle as she attempted to escape.

Cops say the scene unfolded around 5:00 Monday evening at New Hampshire and Atlantic Avenues. Officers responded after receiving a report of a woman lying in the road. Officers found the 41-year-old woman with numerous injuries.

The victim had been in a vehicle with her boyfriend, Daniel Martinez, when Martinez began to assault her. The victim was able to exit the vehicle, but as she leaned back in to grab her belongings, Martinez sped off dragging the victim as she held on to the vehicle. Once the victim was dislodged from the vehicle and fell to the ground, Martinez sped away.

The victim was taken to ARMC-City for treatment.

Martinez was charged with aggravated assault, vehicular aggravated assault, and numerous motor vehicles summons, and was also charged with DWI. He was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
