Atlantic City, N.J. — An Atlantic City man is headed to prison for throwing a rock through a storefront window and for receiving a stolen vehicle.

Last Friday, 59-year-old Terry Fletcher was sentenced to three years in state prison.

Broken Glass at Jewelry Store

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said on February 13, 2023, officers with the Hamilton Township Police Department were dispatched to Helzberg Diamonds near Hamilton Mall in reference to a glass-break alarm.

At the scene, they saw that the glass to the business was shattered and there was a large rock in the center of the room. Police reviewed surveillance that showed Fletcher approach the building before throwing a large rock through the glass and then walking away.

"Bill of Sale!" Wasn't a Bill of Sale

On June 3 of that year, Absecon police officers initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota Echo on Route 30. Officers noticed a fraudulent registration affixed to the vehicle. The driver, Fletcher, stated that he purchased the Toyota with the registration already affixed to it.

Fletcher did not have any documents in the Toyota, which was hotwired, with his name on it to indicate ownership; however, he handed an officer a torn, folded, loose-leaf piece of paper with the words "Bill of Sale!".

Police discovered the Toyota had been reported stolen out of Ohio.

Fletcher Pleads Guilty

On January 30 of this year, Fletcher pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree receiving a stolen motor vehicle charges.
