An Atlantic City man in a Stafford Township nursing facility is accused of supplying the heroin and Fentanyl that sent another patient into a near-fatal overdose.

Walter Gibbs, 59, faces drug charges in Ocean County and will answer for active warrants in Atlantic County in the aftermath of the December 30 incident in Manahawkin Nursing and Rehab.

Stafford police who responded at about 9:25 PM said that several applications of Narcan were needed to reverse the coma into which the victim fell, a result of Fentanyl and heroin.

A search early on December 31, by Stafford PD's Drug Enforcement Unit, yielded about 20 glassine envelopes of what is believed to be heroin and Fentanyl in Gibbs's room, police said.

Gibbs was placed in the custody of Atlantic County Sheriff's officers, regarding the warrants.

At a later date, he is scheduled to appear in Ocean County Court in Toms River, charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
