How would you like to receive a benefits termination letter like this on May 15, 2023 … that takes effect 2 weeks later?

Numerous Atlantic City public employees have reached out to me and they very concerned about their medical healthcare benefits … sharing that they have received termination letters advising them that:

ATTENTION - YOUR GROUP COVERAGE IS BEING TERMINATED

Your coverage will terminate effective 05/31/2023.

Effective 05/31/2023 your employer will discontinue their participation in SHBP/SEHBP.

Here’s a copy the unwelcome letter. I have redacted the recipients name to protect them from retaliation that is the hallmark of Marty Small.

This is eerily similar in terms of the mode of operation exhibited by Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small … when he sent out letters on April 1, 2023 to all of the waterfront businesses at Gardner’s Basin … advising them that they would not be able to open for business.

These long-term businesses received no advanced notice that these letters would arrive unannounced.

We have doggedly stayed on top of the Gardner’s Basin issue, and we were pleased to report this past Saturday that all of the water related businesses will be back by this Saturday, May 20, 2023… Which is great news.

This letter is different in that it didn’t come from the City of Atlantic City … it came directly from an outside source, NJ SHBP/SEHBP … making it even more ominous … because the letter read with such specificity and finality.

This means that the Small administration had to have given prior notice to NJ SHBP/SEHBP that the City would no longer require their services.

Why didn’t Small advise the Atlantic City employees first … before they received letters from an outside source?

This has left City employees understandably worried and wondering if they will experience a lapse in healthcare benefits, effective May 31, 2023?

You can’t blame the employees for being very concerned because of the poor and incompetent track record of the Small administration.

This is not complicated. All Small had to do was properly communicate with the City employees affected and let them know that letters would be coming to them from an outside company … but, not to worry … we’re making a change.

Now employees are left to wonder if there will be a lapse in their medical healthcare benefits … Or, will there be a reduction of any kind in their medical healthcare benefits?
