A suspect, who initially refused to do so … ultimately surrendered to the Atlantic City, New Jersey Police Department, after they activated their “Emergency Response Team.”

The Atlantic City Police Department release the following details:

On October 6, 2024, at 6:55 AM, patrol officers responded to a residence in the first block of north Raleigh Avenue in reference to a woman being assaulted by someone she has a relationship with and threatened with a handgun. Officers located the victim who had clear signs of injuries. Officers attempted to contact the suspect, Jamal Bruce, at his residence. It was reported that Bruce was armed with a handgun and had his children in the residence. Bruce refused to come out of the residence prompting a response from the police department's Emergency Response Team.

The Raleigh and Atlantic Avenue areas were closed for several hours yesterday during this police incident.

Members of the Atlantic City Police department's Crisis Negotiation Team telephoned and were able to speak with Bruce.

Bruce eventually surrendered to members of the Atlantic City Police SWAT Team.

The Atlantic City Police Department also confirmed that the children were not injured during this incident.

“The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, to be treated for her injuries. The area surrounding the residence was shut down for several hours as police investigated,” said the Atlantic City Police Department.

ARRESTED: Jamal Bruce, 33, of Atlantic City, New Jersey.

CHARGES:

  • Aggravated assault.
  • terroristic threats.
  • unlawful possession of a weapon.
  • possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Bruce has been transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
