Atlantic City, NJ, Councilman Sees Murder & Violence 7 Times
Imagine being on the scene 7 different times in the past year for murder and violence in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Atlantic City during the Marty Small error, eh, era has often been referred to as “Deadwood.”
The amount of violence is both disturbing and persistent.
Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt has found himself within 200 to 700 feet of 7 different violent shooting incidents and one stabbing incident in the past year.
During a recent 2-hour on-air interview with New Jersey Senator Vince Polistina and Tibbitt … Tibbitt challenged Polistina and I to ride along with him at night through the streets of Atlantic City.
I have to admit, I haven’t immediately agreed to do it. The violence and mayhem is like never before in Atlantic City.
Tibbitt drives the streets of Atlantic City 7 nights a week to see for himself exactly what’s going on (on) a daily basis.
In a wide-ranging, off-air interview, I discussed these 7 violent shooting incidents at length with Tibbitt.
It reads like fiction, but, it’s very real as follows:
On General Election Day, 2023, Tibbitt was standing on the corner, speaking to the owner of a mini mart and others at 8:05 p.m., when multiple shots rang out nearby and a man was murdered right in front of their eyes.
Multiple people were shot on January 5, 2024 at Boston & Atlantic Avenues. A large underage party had dangerously spilled into the streets.
Tibbitt was on hand just a few hundred feet away.
During the NJSIAA wrestling state championship's on February 29, 2024, Tibbitt was standing on Georgia & Atlantic Avenues. A man was shot on Florida and Atlantic Avenue right nearby Tibbitt.
A family who rented a home during the tournament, literally had crime scene tape on the door of the house they had rented.
Tibbitt met them when they were dining at Johnny Exadaktilos’ Ducktown Tavern nearby.
Tibbitt helped this family that he had just met to find a home in neighboring Ventnor City.
On the 3800 Block of Ventnor Avenue, on September 17, 2024, multiple people were shooting each other at a barber shop.
Yep, Tibbitt was again right nearby.
On October 7, 2024, At Michigan Avenue Boardwalk ramp, a man was shot, and, yes … Tibbitt was right near the shooting.
Recently, at Tennessee Plaza, Tibbitt was at a traffic light, when a man came up and fired multiple shots, with Tibbitt about 200 feet away. Tibbitt pulled over and aided the police.
During what has been called “The Father’s Day, 2024 Massacre,” that took place directly out front of former Atlantic City Councilman Muhammad “Anjum” Zia’s store in broad daylight on Indiana Avenue.
Tibbitt was only 1 block away.
NOTE: Tibbitt was also right nearby during the Atlantic City Airshow, 2023 when a stabbing took place at Pacific & Florida Avenues, within minutes of the Airshow ending.
Tibbitt was just 10 cars away from this stabbing.
Tibbitt constantly monitors both Atlantic and pacific Avenue business districts.
About all of this deadly violence. Tibbitt told us:
“The things that I have experienced over the past year are insane, but, fixable. The illegal drug trade is unmonitored and out of control. All agencies must be at our disposal and must focus 24-7 and we can fix this problem once and for all. The economic effects on the city are just as deadly as the violent crime. The fact that it is so difficult for Visit Atlantic City to sell Atlantic City is disgraceful and unnecessary. This type of activity is devastating. The casinos from an in person clientele standpoint is currently at sn all-time low. They are forced to sell rooms ridiculously low rates. It's having a crippling and it must be stopped,” said Tibbitt. We have to go to zero tolerance to save the city.”
