It all started last Friday, August 8, 2025 during the 6:00 p.m. hour, as a 3-Alarm fire spread throughout the old Atlantic City, New Jersey Avenue School.

15 Hours To Control The School Fire

The Atlantic City school fire took from 6:00 p.m. (last Friday) to 9:00 a.m. (Saturday) the next day to get it under control.

The fire took place in the center of the school, where old furniture and more had been stacked over the years.

It provided fuel for the fire and hampered Atlantic City firefighters to gain access to the fire, according to Ron Bailey, Atlantic City Board of Education Member.

Ron Bailey Reports The Following Update

The Atlantic City Fire Department was back out at the NJ Ave school just after midnight, and again around 6 A.M. for the fire that rekindled, said Bailey.

John Devlin Told Us

The old New Jersey Avenue School had previously been slated for demolition. John Devlin, a former Atlantic City Board of Education President told us last Friday night that the fire will complicate the school demolition.

Devlin believes that it will also make the demolition process more expensive … because the structure is now unstable.
