Atlantic City, NJ Fire Department Tames 3 Alarm Structure Fire

At 9:07 a.m. this morning, Saturday, October 7, 2023, I received word from a senior elected official that there was a house structure fire in real time in Atlantic City, New Jersey at California and Pacific Avenues.

The fire was located approximately 100 yards from The California Avenue Fire Station.

We have been advised by a retired public safety officer that it was a 3 Alarm fire … that was knocked down to 2 alarm status within the first hour.

About today’s work … John Varallo, President of The Atlantic City Professional Firefighters Local # 198 said:

“My members did a hell of a job this morning risking themselves protecting life and property! This is probably the sixth major fire in approximately the last two weeks. We are currently dangerously understaffed and in need of new firefighters and uniform supervisors across the board in all divisions, especially fire suppression and prevention,” said Varallo.

“The city and state have been very supportive of the fire department thus far. I just hope that support continues and actions happen fast,” concluded Varallo.
