Atlantic City Police Arrest Man with Handgun, Search for Victim
An Atlantic City man was arrested Monday morning after fleeing a reported robbery -- and police are looking for the victim.
The ACPD says one of their officers was stopped by a man at Georgia and Atlantic Avenues just before 8:00 Monday morning and reported he had just been robbed at gunpoint. The victim pointed to a man who was running from the area.
According to police, the suspect, 30-year-old Joel Jones of Atlantic City, ignored the officer's order to stop and fled into a residence in the north block of Florida Avenue. Jones was eventually taken into custody there.
Officers recovered a loaded handgun outside of the residence on the sidewalk and Jones was found to have hollow-point ammunition in his pocket.
The officer returned to Georgia Avenue to locate the man who reported the robbery, but he left the area and has not been located.
Jones has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice; he was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
