Teen shot, 2 stabbed — Atlantic City, NJ, police charge suspects in 3 investigations
The Atlantic City Police Department responded to two stabbings and a shooting in less than six hours one day earlier this week and charges have been filed in each investigation.
First stabbing
At about 8:30 on the morning of Monday, July 8th, officers responded to Tennessee and Atlantic Avenues for a report of a fight between two men that led to one being stabbed.
At the scene, cops found a 20-year-old Atlantic City resident suffering from a stab wound, who was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division (ARMC) for treatment.
Officers obtained a description of a person who had left the area and while searching for him, several people directed cops to the suspect, 37-year-old James Knight of Atlantic City, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Police say Knight was found in possession of a knife and also had an active warrant for his arrest.
He has been charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Second stabbing
About 45 minutes later, officers were called to Pennsylvania and Arctic Avenues for a fight involving several people. There, cops found another stabbing victim, a 32-year-old Atlantic City resident, who was eventually taken to a local hospital for treatment.
As K9 Ofc. Nicholas Grasso was speaking to the victim, he was alerted that the suspect, 29-year-old Isaiah Byrd of Atlantic City, was seen running into a nearby residential building. Officers were able to locate Byrd, who had allegedly attempted to change his appearance and take him into custody.
Byrd also had an active warrant out for his arrest.
He has been charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Shooting
Just before 2:00 that afternoon, a 15-year-old girl entered ARMC suffering from a gunshot wound.
Through an investigation, detectives learned the shooting occurred in the 300 block of Rosemont Place and was believed to be accidental.
The suspect, a 17-year-old man, who is related to the victim, was charged but is not yet in custody.
He has been charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
